A Wells fish hawker was charged with stealing a brass rackingtap, of the value of 6 shillings, the property of Mr Andrews inWestbury-sub-Mendip.
The farmer said he missed the tap produced from his yard theprevious day. He was making cider and had been using the tap. Thedaughter of the last witness said the prisoner called at the backdoor hawking fish. He asked the witness if she had any rags orrabbit skins. Later the witness admitted taking the tap and handedit back to the witness. He was later arrested. Court heard theprisoner had a wife and seven children. The prisoner was fined 10shillings, inclusive.
